In South Carolina, springtime temperatures are as warm as the state’s legendary hospitality. As the season blossoms, the Palmetto State is unveiling a fresh lineup of attractions, experiences and flavors for visitors and locals alike. From new cultural institutions and outdoor adventures to exciting culinary openings and milestone celebrations, here’s a glimpse of what’s blooming across South Carolina this spring.

Experiences & Cultural Attractions

SC250 South Carolina (Statewide)
In recognition of the nation’s 250th anniversary in 2026, SC250 South Carolina is coordinating a year-long series of commemorations, exhibitions and educational programs highlighting the state’s pivotal role in the American Revolution. Visitors can experience this legacy through reenactments, lectures and immersive tours across historic sites, including spring encampments at Ninety Six National Historic Site (April 11–12) and Musgrove Mill State Historic Site (April 25–26). In the Upstate, Spartanburg County invites travelers to explore one of the Southeast’s most concentrated collections of Revolutionary War sites, including Cowpens National Battlefield and Walnut Grove Plantation. Additional programming includes Learn Charleston’s The Revolution Comes to Charleston walking tour, special SC250 lectures at The Charleston Museum and a new exhibition debuting in April 2026 at Middleton Place House Museum exploring the story of signer Arthur Middleton. Later in June, Charleston will roll out an expanded lineup of SC250 commemorative events across the city; a full schedule can be found via the SC250 Charleston Events site.

Brookgreen Gardens (Murrells Inlet)
Brookgreen Gardens unveiled a stunning new welcome center and $17 million conservatory in early 2026, featuring expanded event and educational spaces, a 5,500-square-foot great hall and a scenic courtyard. The conservatory includes ever-changing botanical displays, a floor-to-ceiling green wall and plans for a future butterfly center. Each spring, Brookgreen Gardens comes alive as colorful blooms brighten its sweeping Lowcountry landscapes.

Gibbes Museum of Art (Charleston)
The Gibbes Museum of Art continues to spotlight Charleston’s vibrant arts scene in 2026 with major exhibitions and cultural programming. The museum is hosting “Rodin: All the Truth of Nature,” a yearlong installation featuring fourteen bronze sculptures by Auguste Rodin that explores the emotional depth and vitality of the human form and runs through January 2027. The Gibbes will also present Art Charleston (April 22-26), its annual spring festival of lectures, gallery talks, tours and special events celebrating art, design and Charleston’s creative community.

Fairies & Flowers at Magnolia Plantation & Gardens (Charleston)
Running May 20–July 12, 2026, Magnolia Plantation & Gardens’ Fairies & Flowers exhibit invites guests to discover more than 20 whimsical fairy village dwellings tucked throughout the historic gardens, each created by Charleston artists.

Spiritline Cruises’ Spirit of Carolina (Charleston)
Spiritline Cruises has welcomed the return of the Spirit of Carolina to Charleston Harbor following an extensive refurbishment and full repowering. Docked at Patriots Point, the updated vessel features refreshed interiors, upgraded technology, a new HVAC system, an elevated bar program and onboard catering by Duvall Catering as it resumes dinner cruises and private charters for the 2026 season.

Ghosts & Gravestones Charleston (Charleston)
Old Town Trolley Tours of Charleston has launched Ghosts & Gravestones Charleston, an immersive nighttime tour exploring the city’s haunted history. Departing from the Charleston Visitor Center, the 90-minute experience combines guided transportation, lantern-lit walking tours and theatrical storytelling, along with nighttime access to Bethany Cemetery.

 

Outdoors, Nature & Agritourism

Black River State Park (Georgetown / Williamsburg Counties)
Black River State Park is the first new state park added to South Carolina’s system in 20 years and the state’s first linear park. Stretching along the scenic Black River and its tributaries, the park will feature canoe and kayak launches, trails, boardwalks and day-use areas. A soft opening is scheduled from April 2 through September 30, 2026.

Catawba Bend Preserve (York County)
York County’s 1,900-acre Catawba Bend Preserve is evolving into a premier nature-based recreation destination along the Catawba River with planned hiking and mountain biking trails, disc golf, fishing access, picnic areas, birdwatching opportunities and expanded parking.

Synchronous Fireflies at Congaree National Park (Columbia Region)
Each spring, Congaree National Park becomes the setting for one of nature’s most mesmerizing displays as thousands of synchronous fireflies illuminate the forest in unison. Typically occurring from mid-May through mid-June, this rare natural phenomenon draws visitors from around the world to witness the insects’ perfectly timed flashes of light.

Lilyfest (Landsford Canal State Park)
Held each spring, Lilyfest celebrates the blooming of South Carolina’s native spider lilies along the Catawba River. The seasonal event invites visitors to enjoy nature walks, educational programming and family-friendly activities tied to the region’s ecological significance.

BellFest (Devils Fork State Park)
Nature lovers gather each spring for BellFest, a celebration of the rare Oconee Bell wildflower, one of North America’s most distinctive native plants. Hosted near the Jocassee Gorges region, the event highlights the flower’s ecological importance through guided hikes, talks and conservation programming.

Spring Farm Experiences Across South Carolina
Spring marks the start of U-Pick and flower season across South Carolina farms, with agritourism experiences blooming from the Upstate to the Midlands. In Pickens County, The The Happy Berry welcomes visitors for berry picking, fresh eggs and seasonal produce, while nearby Chattooga Belle Farm in Long Creek pairs scenic mountain views with seasonal U-Pick offerings, farm-fresh products and its Spring Fling celebration on March 29. Other popular stops include Cotton Hills Farm (Lowrys), Hall Family Farm (Lancaster) and Black’s Peaches (York) for strawberry picking, Five Blossoms Farm (York) for tulip season, Black Pearl Farms (Woodruff) for blueberries and fresh-cut flowers, and King George Lavender Farm (Townville), where lavender season begins alongside its June festival.

South Carolina Ag + Art Tour (Statewide)
The South Carolina Ag + Art Tour, the nation’s largest free farm tour, invites visitors to experience working farms, local artisans and food producers across the state each spring. In 2026, the tour kicks off May 2–3 in Chester County, followed by stops in Aiken and Lancaster counties on May 9; Abbeville, Calhoun, Colleton and Laurens counties on May 16; Bamberg County on May 23; Hampton, Lexington and McCormick counties on May 30; York County on June 6; Richland County June 6–7; Allendale and Barnwell counties on June 13; and Georgetown County June 26–27.

 

Spring Events & Festivals

Coastal South Carolina

Spring brings a vibrant lineup of festivals and cultural events to South Carolina’s coast. The season begins with the Flowertown Festival in Summerville (March 27–29, 2026), transforming Azalea Park with blooming flowers, artisan vendors, food, live entertainment and family-friendly activities. In Charleston, the Charleston Jazz Festival takes place April 13–19, featuring performances by acclaimed local and international artists at venues across the city. Later in the season, Spoleto Festival USA returns May 22–June 7, 2026, presenting more than 110 performances across opera, theater, dance, jazz and Carolina Country Music Festival returns to the Myrtle Beach oceanfront June 4–7, 2026, with headliners including Blake Shelton, Post Malone, Luke Bryan and Riley Green.

Upstate South Carolina

Spring festivals across the Upstate celebrate the region’s music, culture and outdoor traditions. In Spartanburg, Hub City Hog Fest returns April 10–11, 2026, bringing award-winning barbecue teams, live music and proceeds benefiting Mobile Meals of Spartanburg. Throughout the season, visitors can also enjoy Music on Main, the city’s free weekly concert series downtown, along with regular performances at FR8yard, Spartanburg’s popular open-air biergarten and entertainment venue. Elsewhere in the Upstate, the Pendleton Spring Jubilee draws visitors with artisan vendors, local food and live entertainment around the historic town square. The Pickens Azalea Festival celebrates the arrival of spring with concerts, carnival rides and community festivities surrounded by blooming azaleas. Nearby, Hagood Mill Historic Site hosts its popular Third Saturday heritage events where visitors can experience mountain music, traditional crafts and the historic gristmill in action. The region’s spring celebrations continue in Greenwood with The South Carolina Festival of Flowers (June 4–7, 2026), which transforms downtown with elaborate floral displays, garden tours and community festivities. Its signature topiary sculptures remain on display throughout the summer.

Midlands South Carolina

The Midlands hosts a packed calendar of spring celebrations, beginning with the Irmo Cherry Blossom Festival and Soiree on State on March 21. Additional highlights include Taste of Lake Murray on March 26; the Columbia International Festival and Artista Vista April 17–19; the Columbia Food and Wine Festival April 22–27; and the annual Tartan Day South Celebration April 26–29.

Small-Town South Carolina

Across South Carolina’s smaller communities, spring brings beloved local festivals and cultural traditions. Highlights include the debut of Abbeville Porch Fest on April 18, transforming historic front porches into stages for live music, followed by the Abbeville Spring Festival April 30–May 2. In Rock Hill, the popular Come-See-Me Festival returns April 16–25 with concerts, parades and family-friendly events. South Carolina’s Thoroughbred Country also hosts a full slate of seasonal gatherings, including the Aiken Spring Steeplechase and Spring Herb Fest on March 21; Colonial Times: Under the Crown & Trades Fair March 21–22; the Denmark Dogwood Festival April 3–4; Aiken Art Walk April 7; the Barnwell Sundial Festival May 8–9; the Aiken Garden Show May 15; and the Lavender Festival on June 6. Lake City is celebrating the arts and culinary traditions with ArtFields (April 24–May 2, 2026), which transforms the town into a living gallery showcasing hundreds of works by artists from across the Southeast displayed throughout galleries, shops and public spaces. The Florence Wine & Food Festival highlights Florence’s growing culinary scene with chef dinners, tastings and food-focused events.

 

Culinary News

Charleston’s Dining Scene Expands

Charleston’s celebrated culinary scene continues to evolve with a wave of new openings and concepts across the region. Highlights include Bareo, a neighborhood-inspired concept from the team behind Kultura; Cooper Coffee & Wine, The Crossing and CurrentBurger at The Cooper; and Terra at the newly opened Live Oak hotel. Other additions include Marion’s Gelato in Mount Pleasant, the Paris Baguette bakery café and The Brinery, the first brick-and-mortar seafood market from Barrier Island Oyster Co. Babas has expanded with a third café location, Maya Del Sol Kitchen has relocated to North Charleston and No Bull Burger Bar has reopened in Park Circle. The city’s culinary momentum also includes ROXA Dessert Bar in Hanahan, led by pastry chef Heather Hutton.

Columbia Dining Scene Expands

Columbia continues to see growth across its culinary scene with several new openings, including Slip 53 Oyster Bar, Three Notch’d Brewing Co. and Silver Spoon Tavern, along with Ladder 13 at The Lantern Hotel, where James Beard–nominated Executive Chef Joseph Wolfson brings Mediterranean cuisine with Lowcountry influence to the historic fire station’s original engine bay.

Ole Smoky Distillery & Yee-Haw Brewing Co. (Myrtle Beach)

Opening in spring 2026, Ole Smoky Distillery and Yee-Haw Brewing Co. are bringing a new distillery and brewery experience to Broadway at the Beach featuring a beer garden, full-service bar and social gathering spaces.

The Cattle Car (Clover)

Opened in 2026, The Cattle Car brings a modern take on the classic burger joint with old-school character, creative cocktails and comfort-food appeal.

 

Hotel & Lodging News

The Cooper (Charleston)

Opening in spring 2026, The Cooper will be Charleston’s only luxury waterfront hotel on the peninsula with residential-style rooms, a marina, multiple dining concepts, a spa, waterfront infinity pool and expansive event space.

Live Oak, Charleston Historic District, A Tribute Portfolio Hotel (Charleston)

Opening in April 2026, Live Oak will be Charleston’s first Tribute Portfolio property and will feature 120 wellness-focused guest rooms, a resort-style pool, spa services and gathering spaces.

Hampton Inn & Suites (York)

York’s historic district will soon welcome its first hotel with the opening of a 97-room Hampton Inn & Suites on South Congress Street. The hotel will offer modern amenities while maintaining the charm of the surrounding historic downtown.

The Lantern Hotel (Rock Hill)

The Lantern Hotel will be Rock Hill’s first downtown hotel, featuring 56 thoughtfully designed guest rooms inspired by the Andrew Jackson Hotel of the 1920s. The boutique property will also be staffed by participants in the Winthrop LIFE program, creating an inclusive hospitality experience.

 

Sporting Events & Developments

Carolina Cup (Camden)
One of South Carolina’s most iconic sporting traditions, the Carolina Cup steeplechase takes place March 28, 2026, in Camden. The historic horse race draws thousands of spectators each year for a day of racing, tailgating and springtime celebration.

Credit One Charleston Open (Charleston)
Held each spring on Daniel Island, the Credit One Charleston Open brings top women’s tennis talent to the Lowcountry for one of the premier events on the WTA calendar (March 28 – April 5).

GRIDLIFE Festival at Carolina Motorsports Park (Kershaw County)
Carolina Motorsports Park will host the opening event of the 2026 GRIDLIFE season April 17–19, combining motorsports, music and car culture. The following weekend, April 24–26, the park hosts the 24 Hours of Lemons endurance race.

ONEFlight Myrtle Beach Classic (Myrtle Beach)
The ONEFlight Myrtle Beach Classic returns to the Dunes Golf & Beach Club May 7–10, welcoming top professional golfers for the PGA TOUR event’s third year on the Grand Strand.

Pelicans Ballpark Renovation (Myrtle Beach)
Pelicans Ballpark, home of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans Single-A Minor League Baseball team, is undergoing a $20 million renovation that includes field enhancements, upgraded seating and suites and new meeting space.

Peachtree Pickleball (Fort Mill)
Peachtree Pickleball is a new 42,000-square-foot indoor facility offering climate-controlled courts for players of all skill levels.\
